Tips for New Web Designer’s
If you are just getting started with web design, there are a few things you need to know before creating and publishing your site. I have been a web designer for years now and over the years I have learned a few things or so about what you should avoid and what you should do when designing a website. In this article, I would like to give you a few tips for beginners who are just starting out with web design.
Be Careful with the Background and Font Colors
For starters and one of the most important tips is to be careful with the background and font colors of your website. The reason being, if you use a bright background with a light font, you are asking to lose visitors. Using this type of background and font will only cause people to have a headache. So, try going with a darker background and a lighter font. It is a lot easier on the eyes. If you still want to use a lighter background for sometimes, it looks more professional to most people, then make use of a darker font.
Be Careful with those Images and Videos
You should be careful when using images and videos on your website. Too many images or videos will slow the loading of your site down, and you surely don’t want people to have to wait for your site to load. Don’t go overboard with large images. Scale them down some to help with the loading of the page if you are using more than three images.
Avoid Too Many Font Styles
When you are designing your website, try to avoid using too many font styles. A good rule of thumb is to use three or fewer font styles throughout your entire site. Using more than three will give your site an amateur look.
Keep Your Navigation Simple
When you build your menu on your site, keep it simple. The last thing people want is an unfriendly website. If they can’t quickly figure out how to navigate your site, they will only close it. So, keep in mind that when people visit your site, they may not be experienced web surfers. Maintain the navigation simple and easy to use.
Avoid Flash Intros and Pop Ups on Your Site
Last but not least, avoid using flash intros and pop-ups on your site. These two things are very annoying and will drive people away from your site. A flash intro is cool, but a lot of people don’t like to wait, and some devices won’t even play flash. The pop-ups are just plain annoying for anyone.
